We fell in love with Russell last year when we saw a rescue called Law N Paws in El Paso share his story. They took him into their care after he was found wandering the streets blind and alone. We weren’t sure if we had the time to devote to an elderly, blind senior but we went to meet him and decided he should indeed come home to join our family. We never regretted that decision.
Russell was so gentle, so loving, so pure-hearted! He didn’t ask for much other than food, a soft and warm bed, and to be held and loved, which would send him into a frenzy of gentle kisses!
Russell always had some trouble walking and we discovered he likely had a neurological condition that got progressively worse as time passed.
Our hearts were broken to let Russell go today, but we are confident we allowed him to have dignity, love, empathy, and respect through the end. We are so grateful to the amazing rescue that first took him in and to the wonderful staff at Schumacher Vet Clinic who always helped us provide quality care to this deserving boy. Please, I would encourage anyone who can to adopt senior animals! They have so much love to give and are so grateful to receive it. We love and will miss you always, Russell.
